Exhibition “Come Closer” in Middelheim Museum

08/06/2024

The most interesting art projects take place at the borders of genres and styles. In 2024, the Middelheim Open Air Sculpture Museum not only carried out a total landscape renovation and relocation of sculptures, but also opened a new exhibition “Come Closer” in co-operation with the De Singel concert centre. The promise of encounters between sculptures and performances at both venues sounds intriguing. What they have in common is corporeality: the bronze and stone sculptures undergo the same life processes as the performers’ bodies. The artists in Come Closer, for example, replace the object on the pedestal with a living body. Some of the images in the exhibition are even fluid. In the new pavilion of the Info Centre you can take a guide to the exhibition and bravely embark on a journey through the art objects in the exhibition, which features 25 artists and sculptors from Belgium and other countries. Some of the works have been specially commissioned for “Come Closer”.
4 performance weekends are planned at both venues for a deep dive into the exhibition’s themes. Come closer and participate in artists talks and performances – Middelheim Museum and De Singel are inviting you.

This summer, the Open Air Sculpture Museum will be a centre of attraction for creative young people and art lovers – the place to be. The café “by the crooked ship” has reached a new level and will delight with a varied menu. I haven’t tasted such quiche and cheesecake for a long time.

‘The Wet Wing’ - when silk becomes a river There's something shimmering in the historic space of Vleugel 58. It's not just light playing on fabrics, nor is it a random glow on marble. It is silk turned into water, a river touched by the hands of Daniel Dewar and...
